Bio
Gail Bach was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin. She has had one person shows at the following venues: Cite International des Arts, Rue de L’Hotel de Ville, (Paris, France), A&P Gallery (New York City), White Columns (New York City), NIH (National Institute of Health), Bethesda, Maryland, Anderson Gallery (Richmond, Virginia), Kurtz Cultural Center (Winchester, Virginia), Marsh Gallery-University of Richmond (Richmond, Virginia) and Richmond Artist’s Workshop (Richmond, Virginia).
She has participated in numerous group exhibitions including shows at: A&P Gallery (New York City), Art in General, (New York City), Anton Gallery (Washington, DC), Artist’s Space (New York City), Brixton Gallery (London, England), PS-1 Clocktower (New York City), Edward Hopper House (Upper Nyack, New York), Fullerton Art Museum (San Bernardino, California), Fine Arts Museum of Long Island (Hempstead, New York), Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Macy Gallery (Columbia University), National Museum of Women in the Arts, (Washington, DC), Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (Richmond, Virginia), White Columns (New York City), and Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.
After graduating from University of Wisconsin-Madison on May 22, 1980 with a B.S. degree in Art, Gail received an MFA in Painting and Printmaking in August 21, 1982 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. In September 1988, she was accepted into the yearlong studio program at the Whitney Independent Study Program affiliated with the Whitney Museum in New York City which she completed in May 1989.
Gail received a Yaddo Fellowship during the year 1991, a Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellowship in 1993 and 1997 and a Kalani Honua Fellowship in 1994.
Bach has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University and has been an Artist-In-Residence at the Studio-In-A-School Association in New York City. She was an Artist-Teacher with Vermont College-Norwich University in the MFA in the Visual Arts Program. She was the Director of Envirosite during 1995-1997, an Environmental Artists organization and is a founding member of C.A.I.R.N., a New York City group of artists working with environmental issues. Gail resides in Brooklyn, New York.
